Working with schools
Many speech and language therapists (SLTs) are required to work in mainstream schools to support pupils with SLCN. The way that an SLT carries out this work varies depending on the agreements that are set up locally. Schools are extremely busy and complex working environments and it can be a challenge for a single SLT to effectively make changes.
As an SLT you will work to support a school to become a communication supportive environment for all pupils, as well as those with SLCN. SLTs can provide helpful strategies for schools to ensure this communication supportive environment.
We have provide useful checklists of strategies that teachers can use as a prompt to help them support pupils with SLCN at Primary School. One for primary school teachers, and one for secondary school teachers.
