Communication and Behaviour
There is now evidence from research that there is a link between behaviour problems and communication difficulties in children and young people. Also, read this article about how Communication Disability can effect and Behavioural Emotional and Social Difficulties (BESD)?
Children might not understand the rules in school and so will get into trouble for calling out in class when they don't understand about putting up their hands first. It might be that a child doesn't have full understanding of spoken communication and so misunderstands instructions and doesn't do the correct work. Children with communication difficulties are also at greater risk of developing problems with literacy and social interaction. Very often, these communication difficulties are not identified and so no help can be offered by schools.
The information in this section will help you to understand how communication and behaviour difficulties may be linked and gives some suggestions on how to support your child if he or she has difficulties with behaviour.
