While it is true that there is a lot of variation in development, and some children will just ‘catch up’, this is not always the case, and it is not a risk worth taking.
If you suspect that a child has some sort of difficulty with speech and language, do not hesitate to refer the child for an assessment by a speech and language therapist (SLT). You can find your local SLT service here.
Often speech and language therapists have long waiting lists, so it is important to get the child onto the list as soon as possible. If the speech and language therapy department cannot see the child for a long time it is possible get an assessment by a private speech and language therapy service. Please read this FAQ about private assessments for more information.
