Over one million children in the UK have some kind of speech language and communication needs (SLCN).
There are many ways that children with SLCN are supported, depending on the type of difficulty they have, how old they are, and how the local services are set-up.
Pre-school children might be supported directly by a speech and language therapist, or in a children's centre or pre-school setting.
School-age children might have their needs met in their school. The provision is different in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
